A brother and his sister

I have decided to keep a list of sweet moments with Jaxon and Azlyn.

- Jaxon does not like it when Azlyn cries. He says, "Get her, Mom! Get Baby Azlyn!" And it was very sweet the first time he said, "My sister is crying."

- He uses the sweetest voice when he talks to Azlyn..."Hiiiii, Baaaby Azlynnnnn."

- I catch him giving her kisses when he thinks I am not watching.

- He loves to peek at his sister when she is sleeping in her cradle. Sometimes he even rocks her....with a quick reminder to be gentle! : )

- When I am holding her, he crawls in my lap and says, "Two babies," or "I see baby Azlyn. I want her."

- Whenever we leave the house or even the room, Jaxon asks, "Is Azlyn coming?"

- He is becoming an expert at inserting the paci....when he's not playing with them himself. He is such a stinker. He knows he's not supposed to use them so he loves to tease us and play with them anyway.

- He went in for a sweet kiss on her forhead, but he lost his balance and head butted her. Oops!

- When he woke up in the night, he was crying and saying, "I see Daddy." When I carried him into our room, he whispered, "I see Azlyn. She's night, night. Baby Azlyn is night, night." It was so cute they way he was whispering!

- He loves to hold her, and then, tell me to get the camera and take their picture. I wonder where he gets that from?!

- He pushes her in the baby swing, and tell us to turn on the music. The music has always been his favorite part so he doesn't want his sister to miss out.

He is such a great big brother!

Jaxon now poses with his sister and tells me, "Get the camera. Take a picture!"

Azlyn Elise is 1 month old today. It has been an amazing month. I really should be a stay at home mom. I just adore being with Jaxon and Azlyn everyday. This is my first week with the kids by myself, and it has been a success! It is actually much easier than I thought it would be. We have left the house by 9:30 everyday. We only went to the park or a friend's house. I haven't actually taken them in public yet. That will be next week's adventure. Although we did go to the doctor today, and that kind of counts. The nurse asked how old Jaxon was because she couldn't believe how well he spoke. My boy is a talker! Wonder where he gets that from... He did an excellent job following directions and making good choices. That is my main concern for our adventures next week. He is 2 you know...but I am so proud of him. He is so kind and loving towards Azlyn. It is precious! Azlyn is a great sleeper - very quiet during the day, but sounds like a little goat at night. It is too funny! She is becoming more alert and starting to smile a little. She is amazingly strong. Sometimes it feels like she is going to get up and walk away! I'm so happy that I'm at home watching my sweet kids grow and change each day.

Life with 2

The day we brought Azlyn home Jaxon had a fever of 102.9. Bummer. We took him to the doctor the next morning. The doctor said he had an ear infection, a red throat, and the flu. Wow! We decided to send him to Houston with his grandparents to try and prevent him from spreading it to Azlyn. It broke our hearts to see him go. We had never spent a night away from him. When we were at the hospital, we were distracted. When we were at home, it wasn't the same without him. On a postive note, I was able to rest more and bond with Azlyn, and he had a blast with Dot, Pop, Uncle Jeff, Uncle Jamie, and Marsha.

After a few days, he was fever free and returned home. Whoohooo! Jaxon is so sweet and patient with Azlyn. He always peeks at her when she sleeps and gives her big hugs. He is never jealous when I am feeding her. It is like she has always been here.

After a few more days, his fever came back. The doctor tried him on another antibiotic, but his fever didn't go away. Next step....antibiotic shots. He got a shot in each thigh. When we returned to the doctor the next day, he wasn't very excited. He kept saying, "No doctor." I explained that this was the only way to make his ears better and after the shots, he could have a treat. He said, "Okay." He always knows exactly what the doctor is going to do. When he picked up his stethoscope, he pulled up his shirt. When he pulled out a tongue depressor, he stuck out his tongue. Jaxon is a pro! The doctor even let him use the stethoscope this time. He did start crying when they walked in with the shots, but as soon as he had that sucker, he was good to go!

Later that night, he rode with my mom to pick up dinner. While in the car, he asked, "We go to the doctor?" My mom said, "No", and he said, "I get treat. I go to the doctor!" I guess the shots are worth it if you get a sucker!

When we were at the doctor, we showed him a small rash Jaxon was getting. He said it was hives and we should give him Benadryl. Well, the next day it was much worse. I'm not sure it is hives anymore. Dr. Shelby thinks it might be roseola. Who needs medical school when you have google, right? Either way his fever is gone, and he should be better soon.

While Azlyn was at the doctor, we learned that she had gained 10.5 oz in a week! I was a little worried because she doesn't nurse very long. Apparently, she is getting plenty!

March 28 - 6 lb 1 oz
March 31 - 5 lb 15 oz
Arpil 7 - 6 lb 9.5 oz

I used to think it was silly when people said their baby had their days and nights confused.....not so silly anymore. She seemed to be sleeping for almost 3 hours in the day, but she was waking up every hour most of the night. Oh well, I knew it wouldn't last forever and atleast I could watch some late night TV....that wasn't Nick Jr! The last few nights have been better. She has been sleeping in much bigger chunks at night....of course she is laying next to me downstairs on the couch, but whatever works, right? : )

April 7 umbilical cord fell off
April 8 first bath

I can't say she loved the bath, but it wasn't as bad as I expected. The only time she cries is when you change her diaper or her clothes. She doesn't even cry that much during diaper changes anymore now that I made my own wipes.

All in all life with 2 has been great. Of course my mom being here makes a huge difference. I am so thankful she is able to be here and help us! I feel so blessed and happy. I adore my new little family.

Am I seeing double?

Azlyn

Jaxon

Crazy, huh?

And then there was 4...

The newest member of the Shelby family arrived on March 28, 2011 at 2:59 am. Azlyn Elise weighed 6 lb 1 oz and was 19.5 inches. Her grandparents were there to hold her as soon as mommy and daddy would let them. Her big brother was delighted to meet her later that day. He hugged her, kissed her, pointed to her nose, eyes, and ears, and then, counted her toes. She recieved his seal of approval. Jaxon is going to make a wonderful big brother! We are so blessed and in love with our new, little family!
